KINROSS 2008 – At a regular meeting of
the Kinross AMVETS post 1899, the
members elected Joe Paczkowski as
their new Commander. Joe is a
Veteran of the Navy, a life member
of the AMVETS post as well as well
as a life member of the Disabled
American Veterans. “I consider it an
honor to be a part of such a great
organization and look forward to
serving our membership and this
community” said Joe.
For more than 60 years, we in
AMVETS have taken to heart the credo
of service set forth by our
organization’s founding fathers. In
so doing, we endeavor to provide our
fellow veterans with the type of
support they truly deserve. This
outreach effort takes many forms,
from the professional advice our
service officers offer on earned
veterans benefits to our legislative
efforts on Capitol Hill to the work
done by our hospital volunteers.
Other AMVETS members involve
themselves in a range of initiatives
aimed at contributing to the quality
of life in their local communities.
The major project of post 1899 is
the
Kinross Military Museum located
in Kinross. The museum hosts
historical military items including
an extensive collection of the
former Kincheloe Air Force base.
Post 1899 meets at Patch
Productions, 4901 W. Davis Ct,
Kincheloe and welcomes all
veterans to join with them in
service to the community. To join
the post contact Commander Joe
Paczkowski at (906) 440-5297. |

Lake Superior, Michigan, United States
The Kinross Air Force Base Incident (jet
disappears while chasing UFO)
On the evening of 23 November 1953, an Air
Force radar controller became alerted to an
"unidentified target" over Lake Superior,
and an F-89C Scorpion jet was scrambled from
Kinross AFB. Radar controllers watched as
the F-89 closed in on the UFO, and then sat
stunned in amazement as the two blips merged
on the screen, and the UFO left. The F-89
and it’s two man crew, pilot Felix Moncla
and radar operator Robert Wilson, were never
found, even after a thorough search of the
area.
