Letter to the editor
from John Gaines
4/6/08
This letter is in
response to Kinross
Supervisor Jason
Oberle’s letter from
last week and his press
release in the Community
Voice. I disagree with
his Hollywood dreams. He
has his head in the
clouds. We need to
concentrate of a plan of
action for Kinross not a
shot in the dark. Joe
Paczkowski said it good
when he said “What he
does not understand
about the Governors
program is that it is a
statewide program which
is meant to impact an
entire state as a whole.
Using an example one
should realize that the
impact such a plan may
have on Kinross or even
the Northeast UP would
be similar to buying a
lotto ticket. Yes you
might get lucky but you
can't run your household
budget on it and the
odds of winning
repeatedly are non
existent.”
I am 80 years old and a
member of the Kinross
Business Association. We
started the association
because nothing was
being done about
Economic Development in
Kinross. I applied for a
position on the
Townships EDC but was
told by the Oberle that
I was too old to be on
the commission. Anyway I
was the Township
Supervisor for Kinross
Township for 17 years. I
know a thing or two
about a thing or two.
One thing is for sure we
need to develop our
plan. We have started a
draft of the plan and it
is on this site.
What does he mean by
trying to take credit
for everything that he
did not do. He is trying
to take credit for being
selected for a statewide
award in constituent communications through
the Townships website.
Joe Paczkowski developed
and implemented that
website when he was
webmaster for the
Township. Not only did
he design the website he
produced the
documentation and the essay that was
submitted as well.
Another issue is the
Townships 38 miles of
trails not being in the
Recreation plan. How can
this be? Who did we get
to do this one? I
started the Kinross
grooming years ago with
the Kinross boosters
buying the first
groomer. What does the
Township board mean by
not including them from
the get go? Is this
something we have to
remind them about?
Doesn’t seem right.
Well anyway to make a
long story short give me
a holler on the
telephone if you want to
talk about this some
more. I am in the book.
Thank You, John Gaines,
past Kinross Township
Supervisor
